Moving and Packing Tips

  • Take Notes: Make a note of your moving order number in case you need to clarify any concerns with your moving manager.
  • Get the Bed Ready: Put sheets and towels in one of your drawers so you can get your bed ready once you have reached the new place.
  • Do Not Disregard the Fridge: After thoroughly cleaning the fridge, leave some baking soda or charcoal inside it. This will keep it from emitting a foul odor after having been left switched off for some time.
  • Keep Contacts Handy: You may need to contact former neighbors or any other establishments at the old place for some administrative matters.
  • Pack Heavy and Light: Heavy items need to be packed in small boxes and lighter items in larger boxes so you can easily distinguish them.
  • Provide Your Contact: Before the truck driver leaves for the new place, leave your contact number. This is good if you need to be reached for any urgent matters.
  • Secure Memories: Secure your memories. For framed pictures, pack in blankets or bubble wraps to prevent damages.
  • Pack Plates and Records Properly: Plates and records are fragile so they should be packed vertically to prevent damages.
  • Pack Essential Items: There are many essential items that need to be packed separately like toiletries, cell phones, snacks, utensils, medications, baby formula, and others. This will make it easier for you to access them upon arriving at the new place.
  • Unscrew Light Bulb:– Remove light bulbs before packing your lamps.
  • Label Your Boxes: Label all your packed boxes so you know which ones to pack first and last.
  • Get the Children Involved: Have the children write their new address so they can be more familiar.
  • Do Not Disregard Your Pet: Some pets may also experience anxiety just like humans. Keep them calm by leaving them at a pet sitter when you are busy with packing.
  • Plants also Need Care: If you intend to take your plants with you, make sure they are transported correctly. Their foliage should not rest against the windows to prevent getting scorched. If you intend to leave them behind, ask a neighbor if they are willing to care for them instead.
  • Take Care of Your Computer: Depending on where you are moving to, the temperature might be totally different from your old place. Let your computer get accustomed to the new temperature setting before you plug it in.
  • Enjoy the Help: Do not hesitate to get help from friends or family or even professional movers. Do not overexert yourself because moving can become overwhelming.
