Moving agreements carry provisions that require all parties involved submit proof that they are in fact insured.
This provision is often met by the use of an official document called a Certificate of Insurance (COI).
WHAT IS A CERTIFICATE OF INSURANCE
COIs are an essential foundation of using contracts to transfer risk from one party to another. This ensures that if any damages occur during a move, the property that is being moved in or out of is covered. A Certificate of insurance for movers show that the company has general liability and loss coverage.
In other words if a COI is furnished, it supplies evidence of various types of insurance coverages and limits that have been purchased.
Not only does a COI cover property damage, it covers personal/body injury as well.
Since no intimate or proprietary business information is included. It is much easier to secure and asses a Certificate of Insurance rather than posses a copy of a moving company's certified copy of their insurance policy.
COI'S are normally issued on a standardized ACORD 25 Form. Always make sure the moving company of your choice has the minimum insurance coverage that meets your old and or new properties' requirements.
WHAT INFORMATION SHOULD BE ON A COI
A COI should include:
HOW DO I OBTAIN A COI
