How To Pack Framed Pictures And Mirrors Safely When Moving

September 20, 2022
Framed pictures and mirrors are some of the most valuable items in your home. They're also some of the heaviest. When moving, you'll want to pack them carefully to ensure they don't break during transport or while being unpacked at your new home.
In this post, we'll discuss how to safely pack framed items so they'll be protected during their journey from one location to another. We've put together a list of tips and tricks you can use when packing up your belongings so that you and all those special pieces make it safely across town, state lines, or even country!

Step 1. Prepare Items For Moving

The first step in packing framed pictures and mirrors safely is to prepare them for moving. This means removing them from the wall or frame and ensuring that they are ready to be packed into boxes.
When removing a framed picture or mirror from a wall, you should remove any hardware (screws) and the glass if there is one on top of it. Then, carefully remove both sides of the frame while keeping them together so that they don't become damaged during transport. Finally, remove any backing or matting until all pieces are completely bare; this will make it easier for you to pack each piece individually into its box later on!

Step 2. Prepare Packing Materials

There are several different ways you can prepare your framed pictures and mirrors for moving. One option is to use bubble wrap and/or packing peanuts, which are available in most supermarkets as well as online. If you do not want to use these products, consider using a moving blanket instead. You can purchase these blankets at any large moving company and many other stores, including department stores. Additionally, if you do not want to purchase new boxes, it is possible that the items came in their own box from the store where they were purchased originally; however, this may not be enough space for them all together, so be sure that whichever box is used has enough room!

Step 3. Pack Mirrors And Framed Pictures Into The Box

For smaller items like mirrors, use a small box. If you're going to be moving more than one mirror or picture at a time, however—such as if you're moving your whole home office—you may need to invest in a few large boxes instead of several small ones (or vice versa).
The best way to pack any framed item is by placing it face-down on the bottom of its box so that no part of its glass touches anything else inside it. Then place some packing peanuts or tissue paper around the edges before carefully taping up all sides of your box (don't forget about those corners!). Finally, write "Fragile" on all sides of your package with either masking tape or permanent marker so that postal workers know not to drop this precious cargo along their routes!
Next, write down which room in the new home this item should go into on a separate sheet from its address--this way, there won't be any confusion about where things go when they get unboxed!
You should also include an estimated value with each item (if known). This helps determine insurance costs if something happens while it is being transported by professional movers.
